Nepal is uniquely blessed with remarkable geographical diversity, stretching from the lowland Terai plains at just 60 meters above sea level to the towering Himalayan peaks rising to 8,848 meters. This variation in altitude has created an extraordinary range of ecosystems, making the country one of the richest regions in biodiversity. Approximately 25% of Nepal’s land area is designated as protected, including 12 national parks, one wildlife reserve, six conservation areas, one hunting reserve, and ten Ramsar sites.
Nepal is home to an impressive variety of wildlife. Zoologists have recorded 208 species of mammals, 893 species of birds, 142 species of reptiles, 43 species of amphibians, 185 species of freshwater fish, and 635 species of butterflies. Among its remarkable fauna are endangered and threatened species such as the Bengal tiger, one-horned rhinoceros, Asiatic elephant, snow leopard, red panda, clouded leopard, wild yak, Tibetan wolf, and both Indian and Chinese pangolins. The country also hosts unique birdlife, including the endemic spiny babbler, several species of storks, flycatchers, cuckoos, and many other rare birds.
This wildlife journey offers an unforgettable exploration of Nepal’s natural heritage, combining adventure, nature, cultural, and spiritual experiences. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities such as jeep safaris, boating, kayaking, photography, cycling, jungle walks, and birdwatching. Eco-resorts and jungle lodges located within or near protected areas provide comfortable accommodations in spectacular natural surroundings.
